Preservation Of Old Buildings
SAVE BRITAIN’S HERITAGE (May 2018) SAVE is a strong, independent voice in conservation that has been fighting for threatened historic buildings and sustainable reuses since 1975. The Bodfach Trust became a Saviour of the charity in 2018.
MASTER’S HOUSE APPEAL at LLANFYLLIN DOLYDD PRESERVATION TRUST (October 2018) Preservation for the benefit of local people and of the nation of the historic Workhouse at Llanfyllin with the building being used for cultural, leisure and community activities and making people aware of its significance. This donation is for the new appeal to restore the Master’s House at the centre of the building complex.
Helping Young People
BELLEVUE PLAYGROUP, WREXHAM (November 2018) Opening a mother and toddler group in Wrexham in the afternoons due to closure of several other places which provides a safe environment for children birth to 4 years and parents.
ARTS CONNECTION, LLANFYLLIN (December 2018) To reboot the “No Strings Attached” project to provide access to guitars, instruments, tuition and mentoring free of charge for young people to encourage them to get into making music. The aim is to provide weekly drop-in sessions at the Community Centre every Friday lunchtime open to pupils from Llanfyllin High School.
REED’S SCHOOL, SURREY (October 2018) For over 200 years the Reed’s Foundation has been working with disadvantaged children to help inspire confidence and realise true potential through excellent educational provision and pastoral support. The Bodfach Trust is a regular supporter.
Green Spaces And Public Parks
MONTYTRAX, POWYS The Bodfach Trust made an enabling grant to help set up MontytraX in Montgomeryshire and in 2018 that grant was repaid in full. MontytraX holds a regular mountain bike challenge and is involved in opening up and promoting tracks for cycling and walking in north Montgomeryshire where the Bodfach Trust is based.
PROFESSIONAL GARDENERS’ TRUST (November 2018) To fund training and study for working gardeners on the Welsh borders which provide them with the opportunity to acquire skills and gain qualifications through part-time courses and work placements.
FIELDS IN TRUST (WALES) (September 2018) Working to ensure that by 2022 at least 75% of people in Wales have access go high quality parks and green spaces within a ten minute walk from their home.
STRATA FLORIDA TRUST, CEREDIGION (December 2018) To aid the preservation for public benefit of the heritage in and around The Great Abbey Farm of Strata Florida in Ceredigion, west Wales and advance public education in connection with Strata Florida and its surrounding landscape heritage.
Community
WHITTINGTON MUSIC FESTIVAL, SHROPSHIRE This relatively new Festival brings outstanding chamber music to Shropshire and the Welsh borders and encourages wider engagement with classical music through its outreach activities.
HOLROYD COMMUNITY THEATRE near OSWESTRY (November 2018) The Bodfach Trust has become a Patron of this new community theatre based at Moreton Hall School near Oswestry. Bodfach Trustee Simon Baynes is Chairman of the Holroyd Community Theatre board. It is being built in 2018-19 and will provide a much-needed community facility for North Shropshire and the Welsh borders.
